Why is a battery a core accessory to your life-saving AED? Because without it, your AED won’t work!

Your battery charges the life-saving defibrillation shocks which are delivered through electrode pads to a victim of cardiac arrest. By ensuring your battery is fully charged and ready to go, you can be confident that you can always deliver a rescue in the event of a cardiac emergency.

What is the lifespan of an AED battery?

An AED battery lifespan differs depending on a number of varying factors. These include:

  • AED make and model – different units require different amounts of power to keep them running and rescue ready for that all-important moment when you need to use it.

  • Usage – if you have had to use your defibrillator, this will drain more battery power than if your unit has not been used. If this is the case, battery power will most likely only be drained should the unit perform self-checks.

  • Varying battery expiry dates – different manufacturers use different batteries for their units and have various expiry dates. We recommend having a spare battery on hand just in case you are not aware of the expiry date and that you will always have a full one ready to go.
