The American Heart Association strongly recommend placing AEDs in targeted public areas such as sporting arenas and stadiums. When it comes to sports and the effects on the heart, cardiac arrest and AEDs will often come into the conversation.

Having a lifesaving AED on site at your sports club, stadium or arena could make all the difference as a cardiac arrest can affect anyone at any time.

Example Case: Commotio Cordis

Commotio Cordis is a Latin term meaning disturbance to the heart which describes sudden cardiac arrest from a blow to the chest. The condition can occur following a sharp blow to the chest through a collision or fall, this can, of course, happen very easily during sports. It commonly occurs in sports such as baseball, hockey and rugby. It can occur in children easily as their heart muscle is still in a period of growth.

If a child suffers from cardiac arrest as a result of Commotio Cordis, an AED can be the difference between life or death.
